Customer Reviews

One of them broke in a few monthsThey both worked ok for awhile until one of them quit. I imagine the thermostat broke and the heating element is fine. Also had to cut bigger exit hole in bed frame for wire so thermostat could fit through it and be on outside of bed.No way to tell temp you have it set at without extra thermometer. All in all not horrible but I'm upset one of mine broke 3Purchased approximately on 9/1/19Writing this review three weeks later off of memory of other reviews. The heater works just fine. The cord was long enough to reach the middle of the bed down by the knees and all the way up to the top corner. This was on the king size bed. The light is hard to see and it does not have any degrees on the thermostat control. Which to me doesn t matter when it s warm just stop when it s cold just turn it up until the light comes on. I remembered someone saying it took three weeks to heat up his water bed. Getting adapter to the sink of your bathroom for a garden hose and fill the bed up with warm water. It is a small heating pad which will reduce magnetic field . One thing that happened was it did not come with a repair kit and fill kit. I got another one and it didn t come with one either. I just got a re-rebate. Enjoy 4Buy it - You'll Love It!To be specific I give it 5 stars for it's primary function, heating the waterbed.I've been sleeping on a waterbed for 40 years & this unit warms my bed faster than any I have ever had.My 4 star rating is because the controller & markings are black on black making it VERY DIFFICULT to see what you are adjusting. The red light, on when it is heating, is so small that I have to crawl on the floor & look directly at it from a few inches away to see if it is on.Easy when I was 20 but not so easy now that I am 73.Had there been a viable option to this product I would have purchased that instead. Now that I have purchased/used this, I am completely satisfied! 4A great waterbed heater, made in SwedenThis is my ninth heater in 30 years. Shipped flat! Most heaters I've gotten have been rolled up, and I have to flatten them. All the instructions are printed right on the device. But it also comes with a booklet. Looking at it, you can see the wiring of the heating element. Unlike most heaters, the thermostat is integrated into the device. The control gives a temperature range of High, Medium, Low -- I'll need to look into their documentation to see what that means. The LED on the control is very tiny -- if you are looking at it, you can see if it's on or off. It doesn't illuminate the room. There is so much elegance in this design that I felt slightly guilty about hiding it under my mattress.Highly recommended. 5Solid performance from solid-state heaterI had a unit that functioned well for 30 years and replaced it only because I was replacing everything and assumed I should replace it, as well -- yet it was working perfectly. Unfortunately, the unit I replaced it with (recommended here but not solid-state) failed periodically, leaving me severely chilled a number of times, in spite of all being properly plugged in, etc.So I then purchased this one, as all of the connections are solid -- no plugging and unplugging -- in hopes that would solve the problem I had with the just-purchased unit -- and indeed it has. As some reviewers have noted, the temperature setting is based on a scale of L-M-H with points between and not degree notations. Nonetheless, as with degree settings, once you know where you like it, that's not a problem, and it has held my settings (different for warm weather, obviously) beautifully and without fail so far.So I have come to trust it .... at least as much as a person can who spent time with a prior new heater that failed miserably (though lighting up as if to heat) periodically. So after 3 years, I feel I can honestly recommend this heater. :-) 5it wasn t able to keep the bed warm with an ambient room temperature of 65 F.I installed this heater for the instructions at the foot of the bed, it s very hard to adjust had to use an External digital thermometer so I can get the temperature right. And because they request that the heating pad is put at the foot of the bed, the head of the bed is a little cooler than the foot when you first get into it. I won t of changing it and putting the heater in the middle of the bed, during the few days we get cold weather down here, it wasn t able to keep the bed warm with an ambient room temperature of 65 F. During the summer months it s fine. 3Inexpensive, so no bells and whistlesUpdate: While they advertise this as being more powerful (by 25 watts) I'm having my doubts. It went up to 85 degrees pretty quick, but that's only 'neutral' for me (neither warm nor cold). I'm used to 91-92 degrees in the winter but it looks like it's not going to get there. It took some 20 hours just to go from 85 to 86 degrees at it's highest setting. I'll give it a few more days just to be fair before I return it and buy the same 300 watt model as my previous one. It took less than an hour or so to increase by one degree.====================================Update #2: Ok, it finally got up to 90 degrees after a number of days (starting in the mid-80s because I filled the bed using my hot water heater.) The pad's footprint is somewhat smaller which is probably why it took longer than my old heater pad. I prefer 91-92 in the winter but I can live with this (plus it such a pain to drain/install/refill the bed). The controller is numbered 1-7, and 90 degrees is 6.5, so it's almost topped out.Finished refilling the bed after installing it, about 5 hours ago. There's no digital readout like my last heater, and only the heating element went bad so I'm using the old controller for it's temp readout. Just stuck the old temp probe back under the mattress. New heater is working well and it went from 77 to 81 degrees in the last few hours or so. Should be up to 90 by bedtime.I refilled the bed using my hot water heater, but had to keep stopping and let it heat up a new tankful. I slept on an ice cold bed all week waiting for my new heater so it's worth it to use the hot water heater to get a good start.Took off a star because it's all one piece and the control would not fit through my corner opening. Had to break out a saw and enlarge the hole. Are plug/unplug connections really that expensive? There's only a tiny red light to tell you it's on, and a numbered wheel for the temp setting, so no bells and whistles on this model. While this heater was reasonably priced, having the drain/install/refill kind of sucked. If you are installing a brand new waterbed it might behoove you to buy and install 2 heaters. My old heater had a 5 year warranty and it died right at the 5 year mark. It would have been worth the money had I installed 2 heaters 5 years ago. 4Accurate and reliable, BUT no numeric references on thermostatWorks well and is solid state (therefore silent). Frustrating that the settings are marked only as "Lo - Med - Hi" instead of actual degree settings. I found a reference on the web that enabled me to guess where to initialize the setting to start at 79 degrees (F). I also have a digital thermometer with a 3-foot probe that I stashed under the mattress so I get EXACT temperature readings, and now just move the heater dial "up" or "down" to maintain desired temps.*** Would be FIVE STARS if the dial was incremented with F & C values.PS: I can understand why the "L-M-H" might be preferred -- Perhaps the actual temp might diverge from the dial setting, so the combo of a Digital thermometer and the L-M-H thermostat provides a means to adjust the temp up or down a little at a time. 3So bad it's scary...I'll give it 2 stars because it did heat my bed. Nice that it came flat and not rolled.BUT - While it was on all the time to initially heat the bed the back of the controller got EXTREMELY HOT. I mean fire hazard hot. Way too hot to think about mounting to the bed so I balanced it upside down on the corner with a fan on it. Now that the bed is up to temp (and who knows what that is) it is better but still warm. I gave up on mounting the controller.Wondered why I was so hot the other night - it was because it is very easy to bump the temperature knob. It doesn't click, just easily spins so it was up almost all the way. And so of course the back of the unit was super hot.I wish I could return this, but as you know I would have to drain the bed again. So unhappy. 2Failed after 5 monthsI originally bought this heater in January, 2017 in anticipation of the day when we would install new carpeting and I would need to dismantle/reassemble my favorite nap time waterbed. We didn't get around to the new carpeting until October, 2017, so that's when this heater was installed. Well, now it's March 2018 and the heater has totally failed. The controller indicates it is on, but there is no heat. I am not going to even bother with the warranty, because #1 This is a piece of crap and #2 I don't want to tear the waterbed down and refill it just to have the same thing happen in a few months. As those of you who own a waterbed (which is probably all of you if you're reading this review) it is no small task to drain a waterbed and refill it again. DO NOT BUY! 1
