If I could, I'd give this LEM stuffer a couple extra stars!! Let me begin with stating that this is the first stand alone sausage stuffer I've ever used. Years ago I started out grinding and stuffing sausages using a "Kitchen Aid" with the grinder/stuffer attachment. It worked but oh my, it was a lot of work. I finally wised up and bought heavy duty grinder I would use to grind the meat and then run it through a second time to stuff the sausage. It worked o.k. for stuffing but by double grinding, the meat ended up being ground to fine. The other downside was it required two people working together to correctly stuff the casings. My stuffing partner (wife) passed away a few years ago so I just starting making sausage patties instead of links. I finally wised up and started reading reviews on Amazon concerning stuffers in the price range I could afford. From the reviews I read concerning this stuffer it appeared the only downside was the fact it took a fair bit of cranking to remove plunger assembly so the hopper could be refilled. All in all, it seemed just about everyone loved this stuffer so I took the plunge and bought one. "I am now a HAPPY sausage stuffer!! This stuffer did indeed make stuffing sausage so much easier and I can operate by myself, hip, hip hooray!! The other reviewers did a fine job describing how this stuffer performs so I won't bother to repeat the raves here but I would like to add a couple thoughts. First, it is easy to clean this unit. When you're taking it apart to clean it, don't forget to remove the o-ring on the plunger in case any meat fragments got under the o-ring. It's easy enough to do. I just carfully used a butter knife to slip under and lift the o-ring out of it's groove. Just be careful so you don't damage toe ring. The second suggestion I have works great but the LEM folks will probably frown on this one. In place of the crank handle, I use a cordless, variable speed DeWalt drill motor coupled with a 6 point 3/8 drive 9/16" socket. I also adjust the drill motor so that it will slip (screwdriver setting) so it's impossible for me to crank to hard and damage anything. It's so easy to vary my stuffing speed with this set up and it only takes a few seconds to crank the plunger back out so I can refill the hopper. One other thing I did was before I ever used the stuffer, I removed the gear cover and I packed the gear housing full of food grade synthetic grease. Those metal gears will be around long after I'm dead and gone!! If the LEM folks want to void my warranty, I'm fine with that. As well as this thing is built and the material used to build it with, I don't see much chance of it coming apart. Sorry for such a long review. I seldom review items I buy but in this case, I decided to share my tidbits in case anyone is interested. Y'all have a GREAT day!!! 5We're has this been all my life This machine makes stuffing sausage a one man job. having control of the speed makes it easy to Just make great sausage. Clean up is the same as my Manuel one just bigger by 15 pounds. But over all it is a great product. It was delivered early than it was supposed to arrive on x-mas week. Must buy 5Expensive, but well worth it! (30lb. Auto Stuffer) I make anywhere from 200 to 300 pounds of deer sausage every year. I have been through many stuffers and none of them held up. Broke every one I've ever purchased including the LEM manual crank one. I decided to bite the bullet and spend the money on the 30lb. auto stuffer. I couldn't be happier! It is easy to use, holds a ton of meat, and appears to be very well made. It made stuffing without anyone to help me a breeze! I made 300 lbs. by myself and the only issue I had was it shutting off when trying to do snack sticks. The stuffing tube is so small for snack sticks that it makes it really hard for the stuffer to work. On my first batch it kept tripping after just a few seconds of stuffing. I managed to power through it and on the second batch I added a lot more water to the meat mix until it was really sticky. This wont affect your product and it totally did the trick. Stuffed 25lbs. of snack sticks in just a few minutes with no issues at all! Hopefully it holds up for years and years of service, but after my first round with it I couldn't be happier and would highly recommend it! Yes, it's expensive, but if you're making a large quantity of sausage regularly it is so worth it!!! 5Perfect.... Almost Like everyone else, I think this product is great. However, it's unfortunately not perfect. First, if you don't have a stuffer like this, you are doing yourself a disservice. I used an auger stuffer previously and it was time consuming, emulsified the fat in the sausage and was generally a PITA to use. This stuffer lets you plop in the meat, put on the top and stuff your casings. At a minimum it's 5X faster than using the stuffer attachment on a grinder with vastly superior results. So the problem? It's the base. While they include a couple of clamps, unless you have a counter that will work with them, you will be struggling to keep your stuffer steady. Even then, you can only clamp the back edge so more than likely it will work itself loose at least once while you are stuffing. Definitely not a deal breaker but it's sure frustrating when it happens. The base is hollow so it would be super easy to incorporate a suction base like the ones you find on a drum mandoline slicer. There is plenty of room on the top or side to put a lever and with just a tad of R&D, they could have a perfect product without even having to do much. I've designed several products so I know what I'm talking about here. 4Excellent sausage stuffer! Pretty darned good. I am not a weekly sausage maker, and I have previously just been using the stuffer attachment on my Kitchen-Aid mixer/grinder attachment to make sausages maybe twice a year. This is also a large piece of equipment, stands well over a foot high and takes up a lot of space on the countertop. But it works great! Once you get used to how much pressure to apply, and which diameter stuffer tube to use for which casing (go as big as you can), you can literally crank the sausages out. We made over 7 lbs of sausage the first day. My only criticism is that the hopper really doesn't hold a full 5 lbs; the safe, usable capacity is more like 3.5 to 4 lbs. But who cares, you just refill in the middle of the batch, no big deal. 5Kind of pricey but beautifully made, makes great sausage and it's easy to clean. I never knew how easy it would be to make your own sausage. Remove from box, wash all removeable parts with soapy water and dry, wipe off the rest of the unit with a anti-bacterial wipe, anchor the stuffer to your table or countertop with the included clamps, fill hopper with sausage mixture, thread several casings onto the stuffing tube and start cranking. Easy as pie. Read the directions and pay particular attention to the part about adding water to your sausage mixture before stuffing casings. The unit is beautifully made and of industrial strength. It will last you and your children a lifetime. I did not upgrade to the stainless steel stuffing tubes and the plastic ones that come with the unit might be the only thing that could crack over time. But at 66 years old, I'm not going to worry about it. Oh yeah, order some food-grade grease for the O-ring that fits around the press plate (not sure of the correct name). It helps the plate slide through the hopper as you crank. Non-stick cooking spray might help but I didn't try that. 5This Sausage Stuffer is a Real Winner I have had small grinder stuffers and one of the cast Iron stuffers in the past and decided they just were not getting the job done. I read an online review of several sausage stuffers and this one came in second after one that cost $2000. I used this sausage stuffer to process 50 # of summer and German sausage last weekend and it worked flawlessly! I also processed over 100# of ground Elk meat into burger bags and this was truly a dream come true. It works really well. Adding a new batch of meat to the hopper was simple.All of that and clean up was simple and easy. I like the new design that enclosed the gears. I can't say enough about how excited and please I am with the LEM 5 Pound Stainless Steel Vertical Sausage Stuffer. It is a real winner. 5This is the One I was using my grinder to stuff my Sausage, but it blends the Meat & Fat together into a Paste. So I needed a Stuffer and wanted a Good one.You get what you pay for! This LEM 5 lbs. Sausage Stuffer "EXCELLENT"! Very well build, Stainless Steel, and works with NO EFFORT! Wonderful!This Stuffer is definitely a Commercial Stuffer, No Homeowner stuff here! I've been making all types of Sausage. Beef, Pork, Chicken, and Turkey. I am experimenting with all types of Sausages. I must try Squirrel, and my wife's Cat is missing . . . You'll love this Stuffer! 5The included clamps are a nice touch, and everything else about the product is ... this stuffer works well for personal/light commercial applications. My only complaint is that the included stuffing nozzles had a little molding slag around the tip. Initially I had some difficulty with my sausage casings ripping, so I scraped the tip smooth with a razor blade. This remedied the problem. The included clamps are a nice touch, and everything else about the product is sturdy and well engineered. Would definitely recommend. 4Decent stuffer for the money. This is a very nice stuffer for the price. It is easy to take apart and clean thoroughly. It is heavy and seems very durable. The encased gears are a real benefit - I get kinda messy when I make sausage. The four holes in the bottom would be great to mount it to a board with bolts, but I just use the two clamps and attach it to my counter top. It stays put very well. The hopper holds 5 lbs of sausage so you can get most recipes done in one load. About 3 ounces of sausage is left in the tube (medium size) when the pusher hits the bottom, which is OK because I like to reward myself with a little fried sausage patty after my efforts, But if you are making very small batches that can represent a significant percentage of your recipe (this is inherent in all sausage stuffers).I would give it five stars except for the following two complaints: The handle attaches with an allen screw (wrench provided), but it comes loose with use and I have had the handle fall off in mid-crank a few times. I can't seem to get it tight enough to stay on for a whole 5 lbs of sausage making. Also, it would be nice if the manufacturer would smooth the excess plastic off the ends of the tubes before shipping - if you don't do it your casings will tear as you load them. 4
