Customer Reviews

Pretty, but chippyI love the look this transformational cabinet paint gave my kitchen. The coconut espresso color really turned out a bright white on my medium oak cabinets. The directions are simple and the supplies were helpful and all I needed to paint. I did about 6 hours of prep before painting, de-glosser/sanding, cleaning with TSP, windexing...everything as prescribed. The instructional video was super helpful. I Let them dry over 18 hours before hanging back up, used 2 coats on the fronts and one coat on the backs. Aesthetically, they look beautiful but only one week in I can tell this paint is not going to last too long. There are already signs of chipping and the slightest contact leaves scuffs and scratches & removes the paint. This makes me sad because it looks SO pretty I don t want it to go away! I m already looking at Valspar cabinet enamel for when this gets too scuffed up and I ll have to pull it down and do it all over again. I m sad because I really really want this look to stay!3PLEASE READ! DOES NOT WORK FOR EVERYONE.I read the reviews for this product. I wish I would have listened more to the reviews about chipping. Because the good reviews outweighed the bad reviews, I decided to go ahead and buy this. I bought this along with Driftwood to paint my kitchen cabinets. WORST MISTAKE EVER. I used an electric sander AND a liquid sander as suggested and I even went and bought "good brushes and rollers" as suggested by someone on the reviews. My paint still cracked. I re-sanded the cabinets and reapplied and it still happened. I thought I was doing something wrong I even used their roller and brush, wasting all the product away and IT STILL cracked and chipped everywhere. Very disappointed, made my kitchen look even worst, it looked cheap. Will upload pics as soon as I can. DO NOT BUY! I ended up "milk" painting (google it) my cabinets to try and salvage them which turned out way better and was cheaper than this product. This product was an absolute waste of money. Do not make the mistake I made and throw your money down the drain.1The paint chips easily, so I bought a sealantThis comes with everything you need, except sandpaper and sealant, but everything to get started is there. The paint chips easily, so I bought a sealant. Some areas cracked and I had to keep applying coats to it, but I think that I will sand it down and repaint and seal it. The part that cracked was the cabinet over the stove. Maybe the heat dried it to a point of cracking since I hadn't sealed that one yet due to drying, but my son cooked when I was letting it dry before sealing. Also, the paint color looks more white than cream. You may want to go the next color up for a cream color. Call the manufacturer for guidance, if applicable. Nonetheless, I'm enjoying my cabinets. The cabinets look cream in this picture, but it's actually more on the light side.I have to touch up some areas. I have a 1 year old, newly walking grandson who loves to open the cabinets. If you can leave them undisturbed, then your cabinets may be perfect, because the paint chips when hit slightly by another cabinet. Seal it.3Loved it!Loved it. Decided to go with the "two tone" look and used the coconut expresso for the top cabinets and the cocoa couture on the bottom cabinets. The paint went on thin and required 3 coats to get it to the color I wanted. Definitely would recommend for a DIY Kitchen project. Also, added a coat of semi gloss polycrylic at the end for more durability.Tip - If you're trying to salvage your current hinges take the doors off instead of leaving them on like the instructions say :-)5Goodbye Ugly Honey Oak...Hello Trendy Soft White CabinetsHere is some step-by-step info about the process of painting the kitchen cabinets. The product box states it is a "one day cabinet" makeover kit. However, after reading lots of blogs, reviews and other "how to" guides, we opted to remove the doors and hardware. This was time consuming, but we are really happy with the results.1. We used Nuvo Cabinet Paint in Coconut Espresso (bought through Amazon). The paint is not cheap, but I loved the color, durability and ease of application.2. Remove doors and hardware. (They claim you can do it without this step, but I personally think it would be virtually impossible to avoid paint drips on the hardware.)3. Mask off walls and appliances that will come in contact with edge of cabinets so you don't get paint on them.4. Set up a good work space to do an "assembly line" process of working on the doors. We did it both outside on the deck and inside on the table (with a plastic drape to protect the table).5. Sand off the gloss or use a deglosser (sold at Home Depot). We tried sanding with sanding paper and sanding blocks, but it took FOREVER. The deglosser seemed to work well, as the lower cabinets were done months ago and are holding up nicely. You also have to sand or degloss the cabinet box/base/frames. (This step helps the paint adhere, so it doesn't chip and peel.)6. Paint the doors. We preferred the look of a paint brush (since we couldn't make it look like a sprayed on factory finish). Keep the brush strokes going in the same direction/pattern so it looks consistent. We did 2-3 coats PER SIDE. This takes a while!7. Paint the cabinet box/base/frames. This took 2-3 coats as well.8. Hardware. We used hardware that was the same size as the previous ones. This saved a little time. For the hinges, we matched them as closely as possible in shape, size and style, but they were slightly different. I had my wonderful fiance help me re-hang the doors. That was something I could NOT do on my own.9. Paint bloops. Despite trying really hard to not have any runs, drips or bloops...they did happen. We got an inexpensive rotary sander to grind them down, then touched up the paint.10. The last picture is just a close up of the paint, hardware and granite. We love the final look.Q&AQ: Is this as good as new cabinets? A: No, because you can't get a perfect "factory finish" look. However, it is much less expensive than buying and installing cabinets.Q. How much did it cost? A: About $250 for everything. The paint kit and extra pint was about $100 (from Amazon). The hardware was about $100 (from Home Depot). We also bought deglosser (less than $10) and misc painting supplies (about $40).Q. How long did it take? A: About 24 hours: taking off doors and hardware (2 hours), deglossing doors and cabinets (3 hours), painting doors/2-3 coats each side (6 hours), painting cabinet frames/2-3 coats (6 hours), attaching hardware and re-hanging doors (3 hours), sanding paint bloops (2 hours), touch up paint (2 hours).Q. Was it worth it? A. Absolutely! It was a LOT of work, but the end result looks so much better than the honey oak, even with some of the slight imperfections in the finish. Also, the paint has been very durable...no chips or peeling. Plus, I have "touch up" paint if I ever need to fix something!5Great Cabinet PaintI used this on my kitchen cabinets and I'm very happy with the results. Because my upper cabinets were unfinished and my lowers were just old and beat up, I did sand and prime so I could be sure the uppers and lowers matched. And no, I did not complete in a day. It was a process over a couple of weekends. My advice to anyone who does not sand and prime is to make sure the cabinets are SUPER clean otherwise this paint will crack. It's been two months now and I still love my cabinets. I also used Giani Granite countertop paint on my ceramic tile in Chocolate Brown.5Famica cabinetsLet me first say that my formica cabinets were 20 years old. Other than the outer shell of just the doors peeling off, the cabinets were in really great shape. Luckily the outer shell just peeled off. If you are wondering if you can paint the particle board or pressed OSB underneath the shell....you can! It took 4 coats, but it looks like real wood. The Formica on the base of the cabinets was in good shape. I cleaned and painted over the Formica.... It also looks great. This is a good paint and this is not my first time painting cabinets. I'm sure you could buy something at the big box stores, but this was cost effective and worked great. It dries quickly and continues to set up over time. Countertops next. Great product!5Great High Quality PaintMy only regret is that I used a cheap semi gloss over this. It was easy to paint, very quick drying and the paint was more than enough. I painted my entire kitchen in one day doors and all 2 coats.5I love this color of this paint for our kitchen cabinets- ...I love this color of this paint for our kitchen cabinets- it isn't really a one day project unless literally u start first thing and paint straight for 20-24 hours.... or just crazily slap paint up there...Also, I would suggest once u open the can to paint, finish that can asap cuz if you don't thebpaint starts to crackle a little bit on the wood... I wanted more of a distressed look anyway so I it worked for us, but if you don't it'll be a rude surprise!Comes with: two quarts of the white/almost cream color paint, a little edging Wooster brush, two rollersDoes not include: sanding/degreasing stuff, or the clear coat polish for afterwards... I had matte clear polycrylic from painting other furniture so I just used that. We haven't finished out floors/counters and sink yet but here's our transition from a brown and dated kitchen to a newer themed one so far!4Time to sand it all down and start over with a better project. Oh to top it off we have ...We spent a lot of time prepping our cabinets, and put 3 coats of paint. I am a painter by trade, and know how to apply paints. This is not the right paint for wood cabinets. Only lasted about a week before the first big chip of paint fell off. All it takes is a bump with a dish and boom.....bare wood showing. Been 6 months now and there is chipped paint all over. If you lightly brush your nail over it it comes off. Time to sand it all down and start over with a better project. Oh to top it off we have a tiny kitchen and we had to order another can of paint....total spent $101.2
