Customer Reviews

No, it's not an heriloom Amish-made oak headboard. It is what it is (particle board). BUT: It totally met my expectations. The longer detailed reviews here are pretty spot on. I'm going to add additional detail and feedback to help anyone else looking to buy this.Quality: Some people felt this was 'overpriced' or 'should have gone to ikea'. As long as you know that yes, this IS a particleboard product, I felt it is actually pretty decent. The color matches the online photo pretty well, I'm pleased with the overall look. I had no issue with the quality of the hardware- it's fine.Assembly: To the folks who had trouble assembling it.. Seriously? The instructions are actually quite clear, and if you lay it all out and TAKE YOUR TIME, it all comes together rather nicely. One person said the 3 screw holes were not there on the backside of board "M". I almost had the same reaction, but then I looked *CLOSE*. They're there-- just hard to see and find. Rub your fingers around, you'll locate them. They're small. The only thing I didn't care for was that the back board (the board that's behind the shelf) is attached to the top, but not attached to the bottom. A small gap showed.. I dealt with this by drilling two pilot holes through the bottom shelf and up into the back board- and used the two long screws in the kit to attach. You need to drill carefully, as the back board is rather narrow. While I do believe the instructions are clear, my only gripe is the diagrams (and font for the text) are SMALL. A bit challenging to see with my slightly aging eyes... Read carefully. Look at the micro diagrams carefully. It's all there. Did I mention TAKE YOUR TIME? Yes, I mean it. It will help. Even doing it slowly, I had it all together in under an hour.Bed frame: Most or many of you will likely be wishing to attach this to a regular metal bed frame. Depending on your bed frame brackets, I'm guessing that 90% of you will need to drill holes in the headboard for this, like I did. Line up frame to headboard, mark the holes, drill. Super easy, as it's particleboard.... I used a 5/16" drill bit, and then attached the frame with 1/4-20 x 1.5" hex bolts which you'll need to buy from your local hardware store. Don't forget to use washers. Did I mention it's only particleboard? :-)Overall: If you have the proper expectations, you'll be pleased with this product. I am. The tiny little shelf is just what I wanted-- I didn't want a super deep shelf (takes up too much space). The tiny shelf is great for my rings, my watch, the remote control for my ceiling light, etc. I wanted something that looks fairly decent, and I didn't want to spend a fortune. I have a daughter in college, so my bank account is almost always empty :-) This is NOT an heirloom piece of furniture that your children will inherit. Maybe some day when I have more money I'll buy something that's a little bigger, deeper, more sturdy, solid oak, etc. But for now, what I got really looks great, it's functional, and it was less than 80 bucks. It's exactly what I expected for the price. Lastly, while you don't need to be a home-improvement expert to assemble this, it does help immensely if you've ever assembled something like this before and/or are a bit handy.. If you're nervous about this, or you're not handy or you have no experience drilling a hole or two- just go grab your boyfriend or your sister's husband or... .... and buy that person a 6-pack of beer for their help :-) 5MehIt looks great, but putting it together was a real chore. The instructions have no words just pictures, and the parts are labelled in no particular order, then when I got it all together and went to mount it on the frame there were only two inch long screws, I had to use the bolts from my old frame, there were no washers, no nuts and the lower holes on the headboard didn't line up with the holes on the frame. I had to slam it against the wall to keep it from falling forward and then hope that two bolts steel bolts will safely hold it(my old headboard had four). I guess you get what you pay for. It looks very nice, just not worth all the pain and sweat to put it together..... 4Just what we needed! We were in search of a low profile headboard with a shelf to store remotes so that my husband and I didn't have to climb over each other's sleeping selves when one was needed. After scouring reviews, I ordered this one. Shipping took a few days longer than promised, but that's ok. Hubby and I made a date of putting it together; instructions are decent, but could have been more detailed.I painted over the cheap looking finish with white paint before putting it together, to make it look less... Walmarty. The end result is sturdy enough, and should hold up as a headboard that never moves and doesn't have to hold more than the weight of three remotes, although I would never buy any other type of furniture of this quality for daily use. The shelf is just the right size for our purpose, and the design leaves room for personalization. 4Looks very nice, not all the holes are measured or lined up correctlyWe bought this hoping it would work with our cheap Ikea frame. It didn't. So what could have been a simple project turned into two trips to Lowe's and quite an in depth construction experiment. However, that was entirely our fault for not making sure this would work with our bed frame, so I don't think it's fair to dock the head board for that. I just wanted to mention it for anyone else who might be wondering. This head board and our stuff from Lowe's still ended up being cheaper than almost any other head board I could find. Plus I love the look of this one and all the other similar styles I saw were way out of my price range. The head board itself was pretty easy to assemble (except two things that I discuss below). There was an amusing page in the instructions that I included a picture of here that we didn't really understand. Maybe it means "read the instructions, get two people, get a happy screw driver (not electric), lay out the pieces, then turn on music and start construction"? I honestly don't know what this little map was meant to communicate, but it made me smile.I do want to note that not all the predrilled holes lined up or were measured correctly and that is why I took off a star. I tried to take pictures, but I don't think they do it justice. It was an extremely cheap headboard though and it seems obvious that, in this instance, we got what we paid for.The first issue we had was a small one. The holes where you screw that little black plastic "L" piece were crooked. So one of the screws had to go in at an angle. The second one was a much bigger issue. You know those little metal turn things? There's little holes for them predrilled in the wood and then you insert a screw on another side of the wood and turn the little metal thing and then the screw stays in? Well the holes for a few of those didn't line up. So when we'd turn the metal piece the screw didn't meet up with it and therefore just fell out. We tried it so many ways, but ultimately just grabbed our drill and had to fix it ourselves. However because it wasn't quite lined up the screw didn't stick out of the wood as far as it should have. So even though we got the screw to stay in because it then could meet up with the little metal piece that turned it messed other things up. We found ways around all of this, but it was irritating and made our already complicated project much more complicated. We were already so deep into building this head board by the time we discovered this pretty big issue that there was no way on earth we were going to disassemble it and return it. So if you order this I wold honestly test out all your pieces and make sure everything lines up before you actually start to assemble it. Because if you have an issue this big you'll just be able to return it without too much trouble. 4It's alrightWe all shop for that amazing bargain.. Hoping for Pottery Barn while shopping at Walmart. (I didn't actually expect any better quality that received) This headboard is definitely in line with the price as far as quality. It did not line up with the bed rails while resting on the floor, it's about 2" off the ground, screwed into the frame. We will see how long it lasts. Corners are sharp, so I worry a little about my daughter hitting her head and the frame is rather low so the shelf is essentially useless. We used this for a full size bed so it extends out from the sides and you can see the holes and boards where a queen would be installed. Overall, it's sturdy and it'll do for my 13 year old. 3A little something ledge is all I wanted....Bought this along with the South Shore platform bed in same color, queen size. The head board is about 1.5 inches shorter on each side of the queen sized South Shore platform bed, which I was very glad it was slightly smaller in my case, it fit right around a window. Its only screwed into the bed with two small screws that came with the platform bed in the back, for now. Can beef it up later. The shelving is very narrow and you can keep small stuff there like a back scratcher, medicines, keys, small decorative knick knacks. But "strenuous activities" in the bed may cause the little items to fall off the 2 (?) inch deep ledge. Neverthless, am glad at least there is some storage up there. Didnt want a monster bookcase, just something sleek and useable. Glad I bought the set. 5Simple and straightforward headboard.Arrived quickly and assembly was easy. Don t know why some reviews were negative and not sure what people expected. It s a sturdy, good looking headboard. There are screws included if you have a wooden frame but for most people who have metal frames to attach, you will need to buy the hardware as it s not included. Even that was simple enough though after buying 1/4 nuts, bolts and washers. If not, the headboard is perfectly fine resting on the floor. Only difference would be about a 3 height change. 5Fit and finish about as expectedI was initially concerned as the package was delivered with one end crunched in a bit, but after opening it all up I found all the pieces were actually well-protected and without damage. As other reviewers noted, it's pretty easy to put together, in fact, by taking my time I managed to get it put together with a splint on my leg. Fortunately, none of the installation hardware was missing and everything lined up nearly perfectly. Note that it doesn't come with the hardware to mount the headboard to a metal frame, nor does it specify the size of the nuts and bolts (just shows a picture), so you'll need to figure that out on your own if necessary. It does comes with screws to mount the headboard to the compatible South Shore bed frame though.Once it was all together, it does seem a tad flimsy, but I guess what do you expect with mass-produced particle board and a do-it-yourself kit. Despite that, this headboard looked pretty nice once lined up behind our bed.I'd recommend this if you're on a budget and just looking for a headboard to enhance a standard metal bed frame.**Edit**1/4"-20x1.5 bolts work just fine for attaching this headboard to a metal frame. 4Not quite as dark as i wanted, but closeI wanted something in between a dark brown and black, but this was more dark brown....if that's what your looking for, then it will work. We have the Ikea bed set and I was attempting to match the color to the rest of the furniture......but guess what, I just took a little bit of black stain over this headboard lightly, but still let the original color show through and BAM!....I got it to match almost perfectly. It works for me and you can't even tell! Also note, if you wanted a shelf on this headboard, you will not get one. We really didn't care, but the "shelf" will not hold anything. So it will not work if that's what you want. 3Extra Work RequiredIf you bought the platform bed that goes with this headboard, plan to put in a little extra work. The screws included that are meant to connect the headboard to the bed frame are too small; they'll slide right through the hole.Additionally, there are only two holes provided for attaching the headboard, making this very flimsy. In order to make sure it actually attached (and stayed attached) to the bed frame, I drilled staggering holes along the length of the base and bolted the headboard on with nuts and bolts (before laying down the platform on the bed frame). So far, it's been holding in place.Other than that, it's a really nice headboard; it was really easy to assemble, and the color (I got mocha) matches the bed frame perfectly. 4
