I have been using coconut oil for the last year for the great health benefitsTHIS IS AN ANSWER TO MY PRAYER!Six years ago I was introduced to the benefits of coconuts. So not knowing how to open one, I soon gave up. I put it on the back burner (so to speak). I have been using coconut oil for the last year for the great health benefits. I was again introduced to books on the miracles of coconuts. I started watching tutorials on how to open coconuts . Tools to do a job correctly are so essential. This is so easy! I prefer the young coconuts. I have one daily. I now enjoy making the coconut milk! I didn t want to buy coconut milk in a can or any other container, there is absolutely no comparison. I m always sharing about this unique tool. I am VERY thankful. The main benefit for me? I am experiencing day by day noticeable strength in my muscles. Clean food has me on a path of restoration after a stroke.I m so happy to be ALIVE and living independently again. 5life saver!When my family first started to make our own coconut cream/milk, we had many problems with cutting ourselves because we couldn't find the right tool to use to get the coconut meat out of the shell. We saw on a youtube video how someone had one of these knives, and quickly ordered it. That week we had been making coconut milk, and I had deeply cut my thumb almost to the bone. I couldn't do my usual work for almost two weeks because I needed both my hands to do it. This knife has been a lifesaver! We always are thankful for it when we use it to make coconut milk. It makes it so much easier to get the coconut out oft he shell. We also wear a leather glove on the hand holding the coconut shell. 5Best tool I've found for scooping coconuts!I am in subtropical South Florida often and I love coconuts. They are abundant here and available all around, year round. Getting the coconut meat out of the shell has long been one of the hardest parts of processing a coconut. I've used knives, which feels dangerous and doesn't work real well. I've used spoons, which is safer, but very rough on the spoon and I get a bruise on my hand after doing a number of them. This tool works better than anything else I've tried and the handle is comfortable and does not bruise my hand. You have to carefully stab and wiggle your way around the outside, going deeper and deeper, always keeping the tip in contact with the shell. It takes a minute or two depending on how tightly stuck the meat is to the shell. 5Once you learn how to use it, it's a real work saver!It takes a little adjusting and learning to use this tool, but once you've learned how to use it,it does a good job of getting the meat out of the shell. It doesn't split or husk the nut, but once husked and split, a few minutes of work with this tool will pull out large chunks or entire halves from the nut shell. I recommend using garden gloves when using this tool, as the handle isn't overly comfortable and the blade can slip when you're getting it started. The blade isn't cutting edge sharp. but it could still cut a finger at the force that one usually uses when doing anything with a coconut. I cleaned five coconuts in about an hour one afternoon, and had I been using a spoon or ice cream scoop, it would have taken at least twice that long.No regrets about buying this as it is a work saver. 4Makes coconuts so easy to enjoy!I've always loved coconut water. I admit that means I was buying the name brands you can easily find in the stores, and I did like them.I don't know why I hadn't tried a real coconut, but finally I did. the problem was after I got the water out, I was stymied by the difficulty getting the meat out. It just seemed like such a chore it wasn't worth it, plus the risk of ending up in the ER w/ a slashed finger - "yes doctor that is what I was doing."But then I thought there had to be a tool for this and got on Amazon. Voila!The rest is history. Now, not only do I get real coconut water, which is exponentially better than the boxed/bottled stuff in the store, I get healthy coconut meat which, if you venture to check, has a whole host of healthy uses for it - eating it straight of course, putting it in smoothies, salads, etc.I tried going back to regular coconut water and I just can't drink it anymore, but I don't care. I have a coconut drill to get the water and this little jobbie makes it easy to get the meat, and there are plenty of videos on youtube that show you how to do it.Suffice it to say - with both tools you can enjoy the coconut water AND the meat, and when you figure it all out it pretty much breaks even in terms of cost (just check around! - some places do try to gouge you with the cost for 1 coconut).Hope this helps. 5By one for you and another for a friend.I really am an advocate of eating coconuts so I was glad to finally upgrade to this tool after trying to remove the meat from the coconuts using a spoon and a knife. This tool is leagues better than that way. I first saw someone use this tool on youtube from a juicing channel that I watch.I immediately ordered the tool and the next day ordered a whole box of coconuts, about 20 of them.I will admit that it took me about 3 coconuts to get the hang of the tool and the technique down, and after I did now I can scoop out the meat really quick and in nice intact halves. The design is really fantastic in that it leverages your strength in just the right way. Getting right under the meat and lifting it with ease. Now I can scoop out lovely looking pieces and enjoy in no time. I can scoop out the meat at a nice easy pace of about 30 seconds.Its easy to wash and the handle is very sturdy. My cousin watched me use the tool and he was totally impressed how easily you could scoop out the meat. I am sure you can still use the old way to get the meat out, but really for the cost of this tool it is much better use of your time in the long run for sure. If and when it ever fails, I know exactly where to get another one. Thank you 5MUST HAVE TOOL TO DO IT RIGHT!!Here's how I open coconuts. I use a hammer - - a "ball peen" hammer is best with it's rounded end, but an ordinary claw hammer will do - - , a small metal punch, THE COCONUT TOOL, a sharp small knife, a sharp potato peeler, leather gloves for finger and hand protection, and newspaper to make cleanup easy.First I use hammer and punch to make 2 holes in the "eyes" of the coconut and drain the one or 2 cups of milk into a jar. A paper towel or coffee filter over the jar will keep the milk clean. Now put your heavy gloves on. Next, hold the coconut in one hand and start tapping it with the hammer, gently at first, increasing the force until you hear it crack. Doesn't take that much force to crack it. If you hold it on a hard surface to hit it, it may shatter. Not good. Follow the crack with your hammer until it is nearly halved, then finish the job with your hands.Next, with the gloves still on, wedge your small knife between the edge of the meat and the shell. You could use the COCONUT TOOL for this but it will be awkward because the handle is not centered with the end of the blade and you will be more liable to slip with the tool. This is why some people cut their hands here. Use the knife to pry the meat away from the shell at the exposed edge. Then, use the COCONUT TOOL to work your way between the meat and the shell, a little at first then work your way far under the meat. The curve in the blade allows you to get WAY in there. It's GREAT for this. You want LARGE PIECES of the meat.Then I use the sharp potato peeler to peel off the remaining brown layer of fiber on the back side of the meat. This layer is edible, but my dear wife doesn't like it. The peeler I use has " messermeister" stamped on the handle. As I said, it is VERY SHARP and also has serrated teeth! You're still wearing the gloves, right? The big sections the COCONUT TOOL gave you makes this job much easier.Enjoy your fresh coconut and coconut milk! It's worth it to do the job right!! 5Best Tool Out ThereI've been on a coconut kick lately as it is such a healthy food. It's easy to drain the fluid and crack open the shell but separating the flesh from the shell is a PITA! I've tried freezing first and then cracking it open and 1 time out of about 20 times it actually worked and the shell separated from the flesh cleanly with minimal effort. This does not happen most of the time so I have used a pairing knife bent into the curve of the shell in the past which works but is difficult to hold (small handle) and easy to lose control of and cut yourself (happened to me). This tool has a large rubbery grip that is really easy to hold onto and the blade is strong but not super sharp. It does not need to be very sharp as it is more of a pry bar than a knife. It would be difficult to cut yourself seriously with this tool which is a big plus. It works very efficiently to separate the flesh with way less effort than my old knife. There is still a good amount of effort involved but way easier than anything else I have tried. It's the best thing out there!Update 1: I noticed that the blade strongly attracts a magnet which makes me think it is not stainless steel. This is a question to the maker/seller. Is it stainless steel?Update 2: After a lot of use I am very impressed with how sturdy this tool is. It has held up to repeated abuse and still looks like new. The blade has not rusted so I must assume it is made out of a magnetic stainless steel. 5So Much SAFER and Easier!I love all things coconut, and use it daily! I've tried numerous times to use fresh coconut, but always end up frustrated and fearing for the safety of my hands, with good reason and the scars to prove it. Needless to say, I lost the desire to use fresh rather quickly. I saw this nifty little tool being used on a YouTube video, and thought I might like to give it a try, since I really do enjoy fresh coconut. So, my husband bought this for me a few weeks ago for my birthday. I hadn't been able to use it until this week, due to being out of town and inability to find suitable coconuts.Normally, I use shredded coconut to make my milk and cream concentrate, due to convenience, safety, and portability; however, I've been having considerable trouble getting my coconut shred from my typical source. So, I needed to revisit the idea of using fresh coconut for my needs. Besides, there is NOTHING like using fresh coconut for the water, yummy butter, and milk from the leftover pulp. YUM! But the fight for the meat was a major drawback.This tool made quick work of getting the meat out of the shell, leaving my fingers intact! A major plus in my book! I am able to get the meat out in larger chunks too. I have used it once, and it took me about 5 minutes using the Coconut Tool to remove the meat vs. 30 minutes using filet knives, butter knives, and whatever else I could find to do the job cursing every step of the way. This tool really does make things a lot easier. The edging of the tool is not sharp enough to cut flesh, but it has no trouble getting under the meat. The tip is curved, and it is sturdy, which is needed for this job. I am no longer in jeopardy of losing fingers or stabbing my abdomen accidentally.I will be buying a lot more fresh coconut, all because of this great little tool, and making a lot more yummy coconut drinks, soups, desserts, and snacks. 5Feed your coconut addictionAfter a recent trip to Jamaica, I have become addicted to fresh coconut. I was trying to clean them using a butter knife, which took forever, and made a mess. So I checked Amazon and found this tool. I've used it a half dozen times now and it is awesome. The first couple of times I was twisting it too hard, which broke the shells. I now take it slower and go all around the coconut, the last time I was able to pull out all the meat in 2 pieces.Pretty cool, and 2 half shells if you need that for some reason. It's really easy to use, and a huge time saver. 5
